Super Bowl Commercials

Super Bowl commercials--a main reason people watch the game (if their team isn't playing in it...way to go Pats). After watching years of the Super Bowl, its obvious to see that these commercials are mainly targeted towards the male audience. Beer commercials, men's face wash, men's clothing, men driving nice cars, and hot girls advertising GoDaddy.com.
Some commercials, of course, were incredibly lame (sorry Tebow), and others left us laughing our... tails off. Yet, clearly the majority of football watchers are men--but come on now people, women like to watch football too!
Yes, some commercials, like Doritos, were geared towards whoever, male or female, likes the chips. But I can only recall one commercial that specifically was "for the women." My first thought: What gives?

And let's face it, beer and Doritos were the big hits of the night.

-a love story...how cute. I watched the game with three other females, and that was the only commercial when afterwards we all went, "Awwww!"


Now, don't get me wrong. The Denny's commercials with the chickens were slightly amusing, and the Etrade commercials with the babies always make me laugh. But it's obvious that the majority of the Super Bowl commercials are geared towards men. It may be strategy, if you think about it: women can still buy products geared for a male's attention (like beer or a nice car), but a man won't necessarily buy a product geared towards women--you didn't see any commercials for Covergirl or feminine products, am I right?

  1. Interesting. I'd always thought that most of the commercials were geared towards women, to keep them interested in the Super Bowl, I guess. Did you find any resources that agree with your point of view that you could have linked to?

  2. I dont really even watch the commercials during the Super Bowl but this year i did and i agree with what your saying. Most of the commercials were all about men and how mainly they are. I guess thats because that most of the people that watch the Super Bowl are Men.
